“The Consolations of Art: Nietzsche and the Birth of Tragedy” A Seminar by Dr. Kerem Eksen
In Nietzsche's first book, "The Birth of Tragedy," he not only presents a philosophical theory about the golden age and decline of Greek tragedy but also proposes a kind of art metaphysics that analyzes the dynamics underlying a genuine work of art. In this seminar, the Nietzschean criteria for distinguishing between good and bad art was discussed, as well as how the famous Nietzschean view on how artworks that reveal the terrifying dimensions of life, such as Greek tragedies, can also provide consolation to individuals.
