Flame-Resistant Nanofiber Innovation: A Breakthrough Using Vinylphosphonic Acid in Polymer Synthesis

Prof. Dr. Nilgün Kızılcan and her colleagues have successfully secured a patent for an innovative method of producing flame-resistant nanofibers. The patent with publication number TR 2019 05592 A2 was issued by TURK PATENT INSTITUTE on 2024/01/22. This breakthrough involves the synthesis of poly(acrylonitrile-co-vinylphosphonic acid) copolymers and poly(acrylonitrile-co-methylacrylate-co-vinylphosphonic acid) terpolymers using vinylphosphonic acid, a phosphorus-containing compound.

Flow Through Electrolysis of H2S for Hydrogen Production

Prof. Dr. Ayfer Kalkan Burat conducted research in collaboration with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) under the TÜBİTAK 2502 Bilateral Cooperation Program, aiming to develop innovative solutions for the electrochemical conversion of H₂S, thereby contributing to both environmental preservation and industrial applications.

Eco-friendly photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation devices based on carbon textile composite photoelectrodes

Prof. Dr. Ayfer Kalkan Burat has collaborated on a joint project under the TÜBİTAK-Korea National Research Foundation (NRF) Bilateral Cooperation Program, in partnership with the İTÜ Energy Institute. As a researcher in this project, Prof. Dr. Ayfer Kalkan Burat is conducting studies on environmentally friendly photoelectrochemical hydrogen production. This project aims to contribute to sustainable energy solutions by advancing hydrogen production technologies with minimal environmental impact.

TÜBİTAK was accepted the project from Prof. Dr. Aslı BAYSAL and her colloquies. The project was founded by 1001-BİNBİRÇABA. The project was collaborated by Gaziantep University, İTÜ, İstanbul Aydın University, Istanbul Medeniyet University, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University, Adıyaman Research and Training Hospital. Hatay Namık Kemal University, Malatya İnönü University.

Prof. Dr. Turan Öztürk has won the 2023 İTÜ Science Award (Basic Sciences field)

Prof. Turan Öztürk received his PhD degree from the University of East Anglia, UK, and then moved to the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK, as a postdoctoral fellow, where he developed a new method for the synthesis of fused 1,4-dithiin and thiophene rings from 1,8-diketones using Lawesson's reagent and P4S10.

Exploring the Influence of Dimensionality Reduction on Anomaly Detection Performance in Multivariate Time Series (Prof. Dr. Altan Çakır)

This paper presents an empirical study on integrating dimensionality reduction techniques with advanced unsupervised time series anomaly detection models, focusing on MUTANT and Anomaly-Transformer. Evaluated across MSL, SMAP, and SWaT datasets, the study examines PCA, UMAP, Random Projection, and t-SNE techniques. Findings show dimensionality reduction enhances anomaly detection performance and significantly reduces training times, particularly with UMAP for the MUTANT model. The study highlights the importance of selecting appropriate dimensionality reduction strategies for improved efficiency and accuracy in anomaly detection.
