Two awards for Mehmet Özkan in 2021

Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Özkan was awarded two of the prestigious young scientist awards in Turkey in a single year, namely, the Outstanding Young Scientist Award (GEBİP) award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Science Academy Young Scientist Award (BAGEP) from the Science Academy.

A Project Aiming at Designing New Cytochrome P450 Enzyme Systems

The biochemical project “Discovery of industrially important Novel Cytochrome P450 Enzymes from thermophilic Regions of Turkey, Australia and New Zealand” run by Prof. Dr. Nevin Gül Karagüler from ITU Molecular Biology and Genetics Deparment was accepted by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Directorate of Science Fellowships and Grant Programmes (BİDEB). The host university for the proposed work is University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia.

A new phase transition, electric-field induced, is theoretically predicted in capillary electrophoretic systems

After the long years of applications of capillary electrophoretic separation of many inorganic, organic, and biopolymeric components under high voltage in ITU, Capillary Electrophoresis, and Biopolymer Applications laboratory, we have reported for the first time the modeling of the movement of molecules in the capillary column in the presence of electroosmotic flow.

A new generation antibacterial composite coating material prepared with metal oxide nanoparticles and ecofriendly, biodegradable biopolymers

Plant and animal resource-based biopolymers such as polysaccharides have gained increasing interest over synthetic polymers due to pressing environmental and health concerns. Applications of biopolymers are growing for their biocompatible, non-toxic, and biodegradable features. Chitosan is one of these biopolymers.

Yılmaz Group Constructed New Superior Sensors for the Determination of Toxic Be2+ in Aqueous Media

Yılmaz group designs new multi-channel sensor molecules based on phthalocyanines, rhodamines, naphthoquinones, and chromenylium−cyanines for toxic metals in environment and bioimaging application in living cell. Recently, Özgür Yavuz and colleagues under the supervision of Prof. Dr. İsmail Yılmaz designed and successfully applied phthalocyanine-based chemical sensors for the selective and sensitive determination of toxic Be2+.
