A novel study focused on the development of a smart biopolymer film using biopolymers, enriched with anthocyanins for detection of food spoilage: A study from Chemistry Department at Istanbul Technical University, represents the fourth article derived from the PhD. thesis of Research Assistant Dr. Veselina Adımcılar and conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. F. Bedia Erim was published in ACS Omega. The work was also selected by the journal editors, based on its scientific content and visual presentation, to be featured on the cover of Volume 10, Issue 23. This cover-featured study reports the development of a smart, biodegradable biopolymer film using pectin, alginate, and anthocyanins from purple basil. The film shows pH-sensitive color change and strong antioxidant, antibacterial, UV-blocking, and mechanical properties. Successfully applied as a freshness indicator for chicken meat, it offers a sustainable and intelligent solution for active food packaging.
