Learning, machine or otherwise, can’t happen without making mistakes. Instead of praising the success of creative genius in techno-scientific and cultural research, it is our task to question how we could “learn to learn” by designing innovative, experimental and cross-disciplinary works.
Within an independent curatorial research project entitled, On Curiosity and Creating Wonders, Research Assistant Assoc. Prof. Ebru Yetiskin Doğrusöz, who works in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Science and Letters in Istanbul Technical University, organized and contributed to 10 seminars in Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University between April-December 2023.
For each seminar, a literature review, focus group meetings, case studies and semi-structured interviews were conducted with contemporary artists, architects, designers, engineers and academic researchers who work on experience design, speculative future design-fiction, memory, identity, psycho-cultural landscapes, bio-art, immersive cinema and AI.
On November 29, 2023, together with Bager Akbay, Research Assistant Assoc. Prof. Ebru Yetiskin Doğrusöz examined some critical issues raised with the use of artificial intelligence in contemporary societies.
Throughout history, many accidents, failures and mistakes that have been at the core of techno-scientific and artistic research have led to the creation of new knowledge and experiences. Errors can also be considered as opportunities. They can support faster learning by experimentation, help establish correct mental models, and encourage users to provide feedback, and expectantly become more curious.
