Prof. Jan P. Hogendjik, the World-renowned Professor of Mathematics at Utrecht University and the "Otto Neugebauer Prize", visited the ITU Museum at the Rectorate and the Department of Sociology.

The endeavour to engage prominent figures in the academic realm persists as an integral component of the initiatives undertaken by Istanbul Technical University (ITU), specifically within the purview of the History of Science and Technology graduate program and the Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Letters and Sciences. Concurrently, as a symbol of ITU's commitment to internationalization, Professor Jan Pieter Hogendijk, a distinguished scholar specializing in mathematics and the history of science at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, has been instrumental in furthering this academic exchange. Renowned for his noteworthy contributions to the study of mathematics and astronomy history in the Medieval Islamic world since 2005, Professor Hogendijk garnered esteemed recognition in 2012 when he received the "Otto Neugebauer Prize" from the European Mathematical Society.

In a momentous engagement with ITU, Prof. Hogendijk visited the ITU Museum on the 27th of November 2023. He found the museum to be remarkable, particularly expressing a specialized interest in the exhibited astrolabes. Subsequently, he engaged in a substantive discourse through an interview with faculty members and students affiliated with the Department of Sociology and the History of Science and Technology graduate program. This collaborative interaction yielded significant outcomes, culminating in the decision to establish and cultivate bilateral academic relations under the auspices of the Erasmus framework.

This multifaceted exchange not only exemplifies ITU's commitment to fostering intellectual exchange but also underscores the institution's dedication to enhancing its academic landscape through global collaborations. The visit and subsequent deliberations signify a pivotal step toward the mutual enrichment of scholarly pursuits and the development of enduring academic ties between ITU and Utrecht University.
