Within the scope of the 250th anniversary events, this valuable work examines in detail the contributions of ITU to science and technology and offers an important resource to the academic community.
With 250 years of essential history, ITU has pioneered scientific developments throughout its historical journey from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey. With its intellectual memory and distinguished environment, the institution forms a strong bridge from the past to the future.
As part of the 250th anniversary events, this valuable work examines in detail ITU's contributions to science and technology and provides an important resource. This work, which can be described as a reference source, sheds light on the history of ITU and guides the future. It is edited by Assoc. Prof. Ebubekir CEYLAN, one of the professors of our Sociology Department.
This publication includes an article by Assoc. Prof. Ebubekir Ceylan titled “İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Öğrencilerinin Lozan Anlaşması Hakkında Algıları Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme”, (An Evaluation on Istanbul Technical University Students' Perceptions of the Lausanne Treaty). The article examines how the Lausanne Treaty is perceived by students and questions the place of historical events in social memory.
Additionally, the book includes a publication co-authored by Assoc. Prof. Ebubekir CEYLAN and Dr. Kadir KON titled “Vatana İhanetle Ulusal Kahramanlık Arasında: İngiliz Generalı Charles Townshend'ın “Türkiye Meselesi”nin Çözümü Sürecindeki Faaliyetleri ve İlginç İlişkiler Ağı (1922-23)”, (Between Treason and National Heroism: The Activities of British General Charles Townshend During the Resolution Process of the “Turkish Issue” and Intriguing Network of Relationships, 1922-23).
Moreover, the book features a publication co-authored by Prof. Aytekin ÇÖKELEZ and Prof. Tuncay ZORLU titled “Bilim ve Teknoloji Tarihi Çalışmalarının İTÜ’deki Serencamı: Kişiler, Kurumlar, Programlar, Etkinlikler ve Yayınlar” (The Journey of Science and Technology History Studies at ITU: People, Institutions, Programs, Events, and Publications.)
Dr. Mustafa İNCE also contributed with an article titled (Mühendishane ve Hendese Mektebindeki Pratik (Ameli) Dersler ve Uygulama Mekanları (1795-1909),“Practical Lessons and Application Areas at the Engineering School (1795-1909)” in the book.
As the architect of many scientific and technological advances, Istanbul Technical University (ITU) has pioneered many firsts in Turkey. With its innovative perspective and strong relations with the world, ITU continues to develop in accordance with the requirements of the time. In this context, the book "ITU 250th Year Corpus", published as part of ITU's 250th anniversary activities, aims to narrate the major cornerstones of the University's two and a half century long journey.
The book conveys ITU's important milestones throughout its history, its scientific and technological contributions from the Ottoman Empire to the Republican period of Turkey, along with reprints, biographies, monographs and projects that left their mark. Hence, it could be stated that this book not only reveals ITU's history, but also enlightens its vision for the future.

Prof. Ebubekir CEYLAN titled “İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Öğrencilerinin Lozan Anlaşması Hakkında Algıları Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme”, (An Evaluation on Istanbul Technical University Students' Perceptions of the Lausanne Treaty) was published.
The article was published in the book titled “From Ottoman Empire to Turkish Republic: Politics, Society and ITU”. It examines how the Lausanne Treaty is perceived by ITU students and questions the place of historical events in social memory. The Treaty of Lausanne is undoubtedly one of the turning points in Turkey's recent history. This treaty represents an important junction point in the transition from empire to nation state, where the foundations of the Republic of Turkey were laid after World War I and the Independence War and began to be recognized as a sovereign state.
With this article, Ceylan not only enlightens the Treaty of Lausanne, one of the most important historical agreements for the Republic of Turkey, but also reveals the opinions of students of Istanbul Technical University on this subject and evaluates students’ approach to conspiracy theories regarding the Lausanne Treaty.

In this article, the background of a multidimensional diplomatic effort to resolve the issues of "Türkiye and the East" without war, launched by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) army against the Greek army in Western Anatolia on August 26, 1922, is discussed in the light of new documents, information and evaluations. It focuses on the 1922-1923 period, and examines not only the activities of the British General Townshend, but also reveals the interesting network of relationships.
