Prof. Dr. Ayça Sayı Yazgan, a faculty member of ITU Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, received the "Işıl Berat Barlan Woman Scientist" award given by the Turkish Society of Immunology under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Talal Chatila from Harvard Medical School.

Prof. Dr. Ayça SAYI YAZGAN conducts research on different subjects such as the immune response in Helicobacter pylori bacterial infection, which is the causative agent of stomach ulcers, and its effect on cancer formation, the role of regulatory B cells in sick and healthy individuals. Recently her group was focused on elucidating the energy metabolism of Helicobacter-activated B cells. Yazgan, who has been involved in many national and international projects, continues her studies with doctoral and graduate students focusing on Molecular Immunology at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at ITU.

Prof. Dr. Ayça SAYI YAZGAN had been invited to present her talk called “Metabolic Reprogramming of Bacterially Activated B cells” at the 5th Molecular Immunology & Immunogenetics Congress (MIMIC-V) which was held in Izmir on October 20th-22nd.  During the congress, she was also awarded with the highly prestigious Female Scientist Award in the honor of Dr. Işıl Berat Barlan by Prof. Dr. Talal Chatila from the Harvard Medical School.
